Essential Viewing | “The Twilight Zone” – The Star

It’s the last post on the LICK NYC blog until after Christmas 2013. With that I’d like to leave the last post of this Christmas season as this tremendous segment of the 1980s re-boot of “The Twilight Zone.” Based on an Arthur C. Clarke story, it’s episode 31 “The Star.” Starring Fritz Weaver and Donald Moffat, the segment originally aired December 20th, 1985 on CBS as the third story of a three-story episode.

Say what you may about Christmas and/or its would-be origins, this tale of space archaeologists who come across a dead planetary system whose civilization died some 2000 years earlier after its star went super nova is as poignant, touching and thought-provoking as any episode of “The Twilight Zone” that has ever been.
